POW MIA

This photo depicts Maj. Eugene Wheeler, USMC, shot down over Laos on April 21st 1970. Eugene and his aerial observer Capt Chuck Hatch both ejected sucessfully and maintained radio contact with each other and SAR. On the 22nd, right before Capt. Hatch was extracted, he heard pistol shots, followed by AK fire from what he believed to be Eugene's position. Eugene remains Missing In Action. I've worn Eugene's bracelet for 14 years, and he has become, in a way, my older brother. He drew me into the Vietnam POW/MIA issue, and has inspired me to write a book about Vietnam POW's.
